Abstract
Nocardiosis is a localized or disseminated infection caused by a soil-borne aerobic
actinomycete which is gram-positve and weak acid-fast usually introduced through the
respiratory tract.
The pulmonary event in humans may be transient or subclinical or may provoke an
acute or chronic bronchopulmonary process mimicking tuberculous and mycotic infection
or malignancy.
Nocardial infection are not rare in the USA, but very rare in Korea. We have
exprienced a case of pulmpnary nocardiosis associated with aspergillosis. The diagnosis
was made by culture of the sputum and open lung biopsy specimens showing
characteristic weak acid-fastness on modified Ziehl-Neelsen staining with branching
hyphae on gram staining and histologic examination of open lung biopsy specimens.
We report a case of pulmonary nocardiosis with the review of the relevant literatures.
